25* Featured Grinder DJ Dellmatic
DJ Dellmatic - Build Ya Brand DJ's
This 25*8 Grinder is one of the hardest working DJ's in the Carolinas. It brings me great pleasure to introduce to you none other than my homie DJ Dellmatic.
Do you feel DJ's need to know how to mix and scratch with today's Technology
 Absolutely if you can't mix/scratch you're wack!
It matters but not that much just play good music!
Naw...mixing and scratching can't move the crowd!
What's a DJ, I never been out of my house before!

DJ Dellmatic | Run NC
Shelly B: Lets dig in the crates a little. Give me your top 5 HipHop records of all time followed by the top 5 records you go to reach first when spinning at a party.

DJ Dellmatic: (My top 5 Records of all time...HMMMMMMM!!!..... Most Definitely 1) A Tribe Called Quest - "Electric Relaxation" that's my favorite joint!! 2) Outkast - "Babylon" , 3) MC Lyte - "Paper Thin", 4) 50 Cent - "In Da Club", 5) B.V.S.M.P. - "I Need You"........ TOP 5 RECORDS THAT I REACH FOR FIRST... 1) DG Yola - "Ain't Gon Let Up", 2) Young Money - "Steady Mobbin", 3) Meek Mill - "House Party" 4) Lil Wayne - John, 5) Young Jeezy - "Ballin"

Shelly B: These days, you can pop out an MP3 player or a labtop and be considered a DJ. How do you feel about this statement and break down the term DJ and what it takes to respectfully carry the title. .......

DJ Dellmatic: Well for me, I started when it was only vinyl!! No laptop...only crates of records and two turntables. The term DJ is used very loosely these days. Like you said a mp3 player and a laptop with a mixer can have you poppin!!  It's sad to see, but technology has mad it easier to DJ.  Personally if you don't have the talent and skills to blend two tracks together without visual or technical help...you are not a DJ!!! The legends used headphones and marked records...there were not any CUE POINTS...You had to find the break in a record! Today people see me on CDJs all the time and say "Dellmatic ain't keeping it real!!"... The thing is, that I did that....I DO THAT! I got 3 set-ups... Technics, Vestax, and Pioneer! I was raised on Gemini-500 when I couldn't afford Technic 1200s!! So I have progressed to the CDJs because the are compact and I can travel easily with them....BUT DO NOT GET IT TWISTED.......I WILL GO HAM ON THEM TABLES!! LOL!

Shelly B: Whats the background behind your involvement with The Core & Build Ya Brand DJs? What significance do these coalitions have in the industry?

DJ Dellmatic: I am actually a member of the WORLDWIDE FLEET DJS!! I started going to THE CORE DJS RETREATS before I became a member of the Fleet Djs...I got mad love for THE CORE DJS (S/O to Tony Neal (CEO of the Core Djs)  because they started the fire in me to really wanna go outside of my comfort zone and showing me how to market yourself and brand yourself. As for the Fleet Djs, they gave me a chance to really show what I had to offer to the music industry....Thanks to fellow member DJ G.Mac and Klassik (Ceo of the Fleet Djs) ....They fought for me hard to get in the crew, I guess they saw my hunger and my work ethic! And as for the BUILD YA BRAND DJS... We started this crew, which is North Carolina based and still expanding, so we could get rid of the myth that the DJs don't support the artists.  I have heard that before I really stepped on the Carolina scene and I really see the argument of both sides..But we as Build Ya Brand Djs are trying to make the move to become a voice for the artists in the clubs, internet, blogs and various other avenues to get their music heard.

Shelly B: What is your ultimate goal as a DJ? Is your passion focused on entertaining or supporting/breaking artist?

DJ Dellmatic: My Goal is to break records!!! I will be so satisfied when I can help an artist(s) go to that NEXT level!! That is my passion...I've been entertaining for over 13 years and I'm gonna keep entertaining ..I love DJing and I love moving the crowd but I wanna take it a step further and really work a record and watch it BLOW UP!!

Shelly B: Through a dj's eyes, where is the state of Hip Hop in the Carolinas? In the Mainstream Industry?

DJ Dellmatic: Hip-Hop in the Carolina's is poppin! I love it! So many different artists and so much talent. Everybody is screaming come together and everybody support....That's probably not gonna happen because there are so many versatile artists. A Trap artists is probably not gonna be feeling a backpack rapper. It's just the reality! I wish the DJ would really support the artists a little more, but at the same time Artists need to know how to approach a DJ...Don't holla at him when he's doing his thing because he is AT WORK! Offer to take them out to lunch and really get to know the DJ and see if they can help what you are doing.....The Mainstream is booming right now it seems. You got Rick Ross and Maybach Music Group going crazy, then you got Young Money making noise. Then you got artists like Jay-Z and Kanye still holding the reigns, so it's good for hip-hop right now. I like that the young artists are getting their shine too!

Shelly B: What do you look for in artist when selecting music for your projects or events?

DJ Dellmatic: I look for their interest in music and their hunger!! I wanna know that when I finish a project, they are gonna go as hard as I do!! And naturally I look for the bangers! Those joints that make you just repeat that joint all day long! LOL!

Shelly B: If you could break 5 artist in your region, who would they be?

DJ Dellmatic: Quite naturally "Shelly B...., Rain, Ricky Ruckus, Deniro, Blackstrom" These artists to me are tasting the Industry right now, and have their business in order! Now on another note I got some DOPE artists with the talent and all they need is the business end and I would be trying to break mad artists!!

Shelly B: Provide some advice to that young DJ just getting his feet with in his passion. What type of direction would you give him.

DJ Dellmatic: WORK, WORK, WORK!!! Practice on your craft the original way...No laptop! Just the music! When you can hear the music it gives you an advantage...You get that "Damn, that would go dope with that song" sense....DJs KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! Also, research other DJs and find out what they are doing...Don't BITE, but watch and learn what they do so you can incorporate something that they do and really take it to another level!!

Shelly B: Any Final words, Shout outs?
